Welcome Matt Wood, Venn IT’s newest team member.
Venn IT Adelaide office is expanding and we are excited to welcome our newest team member, Matt Wood. Matt will bring his vast experience in public cloud and virtualisation to support our clients across SA and the rest of Australia.
Read on to learn more about Matt and what he’ll be working on at Venn IT.
Originally from England, Matt spent the first few years of his career working for Fujitsu UK in several roles, the last of which was as a Technical Service Specialist. Matt moved to Australia in 2008 where he took on a role in the SA state government, first as a sysadmin for the SA Department of Treasury and Finance, where he looked after Windows and virtualisation technologies, and then as a Team Lead at Shared Services SA.
In 2013 he joined NEC as a senior systems engineer, where he stayed for ten years, working his way to team lead and then capability manager for virtualisation and public cloud.
At Venn, Matt will primarily work within public cloud (AWS, Azure) and virtualisation (VMWare and HyperV), supporting our customers with health checks, assessments, upgrades, migrations, and local data centre works.
For Matt, joining Venn IT as a technical consultant is, first and foremost, a change of career direction. After spending some time mostly off the tools and working more on the management and strategy side of things, Matt is excited about getting back in tech, being more hands-on and working directly with customers, as technology is a real passion of his.
Joining Venn IT also means joining a smaller company than the large multinationals he used to work for. It’s the chance to have a closer, more personable approach and help Venn grow within the SA market, where he is the 3rd member of our local team.
“We are very excited to be welcoming Matt to our team,” says Paul McGuinness, head of Technical Services at Venn IT, “he brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience and we are looking forward to being able to do more for our South Australian customers”.
Last but not least, Matt already knew a few of our team members for whom he says he has a lot of respect and is excited about working alongside them.
Outside of work, Matt is a very active person who enjoys anything outdoorsy such as cycling, golfing, camping, or hiking with his wife and dog, Gatsby. Matt is also a keen traveller, from cruises to a 4-month trip around the world a few years ago. When not outdoors or exploring the world, you’ll likely find Matt at music gigs, playing the piano or enjoying board and computer games.
